BIOGRAPHY

A Kentucky native who moved to Nashville in the 1980¹s, Jonell worked with the cream of Music City¹s players, singers and writers while building a reputation as one of the hottest performers in town. Her first album, "Around Townes", was a collection of interpretations of Townes Van Zandt songs. What started as a demo project for Townes to get cuts by Nashville¹s female singers wound up becoming a CD master when Jonell¹s "demo" performances knocked everyone off their feet.
So Like Joy was the culmination of a creative relationship that began when Jonell met John Hall in the late 1980's. It contains 12 of the 50 or so songs on which Mosser and Hall have collaborated. Produced by John Hall and featuring some of Woodstock¹s best musicians in addition to Jonell¹s Nashville stalwarts, the CD charted in the Triple A, Americana, and AC formats. It also established the formidable vocalist as a songwriter in her own right.
Jonell's CD, Enough Rope, broadens Jonell¹s resume to include production. Calling the shots with co-producer and guitarist Tom Britt, Jonell gathered a moving, personal collection of songs that show her as a blues shouter, a rock diva, a traditional singer of folk protest and gospel songs, always honoring the song before showing off her chops. Including one track co-produced by the legendary George Massenburg and John Hall, featuring bass wizard Victor Wooten and the late drum guru Larry Londin, Enough Rope continues to be heard on the airwaves of dozens of American radio stations. The latest track to receive attention, and to cross over to some country stations, is the prayerful "Peace Stories" which seems eerily prescient in the light of recent events.
